Good morning/evening community of "el desertor ingles", the topic I am going to present you today is the differences between the British and Chilean culture.

I will start this topic by introducing you a little bit of the Chilean culture.

Chile is a large country located in the southwest part of South America. Its boundaries are the Pacific Ocean at the West, the Andes Mountains at the East, Peru and Bolivia in the north and the Strait of Magellan's on the south part. It is known for being a tricontinental country, because of its territories in South America, Oceania and the Antarctica.

Talking about manners in Chile, I think that we Chileans are very careless about the language; we use the Spanish in a very fast way, we miss the "s" in most of the sentences and finish some of it with an "ai" often followed by a "po". For example the sentence "uno, do, tre" (one, two, three); ¿cashai po? (Did you understand?), when they are supposed to be said uno, do*s*, tre*s*, and ¿cashaste? (A word from the Chilean idiom that came from the english word "Did you catsh that?")

According to a poll made by the Chile's university, Chile and Argentina speak the worst Spanish in all Latin-America.

But I am sure of this not only because of the poll, but also by a personal experience I lived on a travel to Mexico.

On this travel I have the opportunity to meet people from Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela and many other parts from South America.

On every single conversation we had, they were able to talk with each other with no problems of understanding, but when I started to talk, many times they asked me to speak slower and to explain some words that were "weird and funny".

Another thing I can tell you about the Chilean culture is the gastronomy.

In Chile the traditional food is the "empanada de pino", dough filled with meat, onion, olive and egg; the corn and potato pie, the "choripan" (it's like a hot dog but with a small sausage and tomato mix with green chili, onion, etc). But this kind of food is often eaten on the national holidays on September.

The most known drink is the pisco and the chicha, wich is usually drank on the national holidays as well

Now let's talk about the British culture

It is known that the British culture is one of the most known cultures of the world. The typical stereotype of a British person is the one of a very educated man that usually likes to talk very formal and that likes to drink tea.

Well, maybe we are not wrong at all, but the Britishness goes beyond that.

We call Great Britain to the union of England, Scotland, Wales and north Ireland.

I'm not going to tell you about all the things we can find on each one culture, because it will take me a lot of time to write it down, but I am going to tell you that as is it true that they have many things in common, each one have something different from the other, for example in Scotland the english is not the only language we can find, there is also the Scottish Gaelic and in Wales we can find the welsh.

The British culture is known for being very polite and careful with their manners, for create the football and the cricket, for their typical foods, like the fish with potatoes, and for their drinks like the tea, beer and whiskey.

They are also known for being very superstitious, for example touching Wood,  find a four leaves  clover, that a black cat crosses in front of you, are signs of good luck, and drop the salt, break a mirror, walk under a stair and open an umbrella inside of a room are signs of bad luck

It is true that the Chilean and the British cultures are quite different cultures, and in some ways it seems that the British is better that the Chilean, but I think we must not forget that they are two different nations and that their stories are different. Most of the things related to a country culture is related to the story of each one, is not that one is better than the other, is that they are different.

In second place it is correct to say that we cannot expect that both cultures have many similar manners, because Chile had its origins with the Spanish culture at the end of the middle age, while the British has it's centuries before.

If we must talk about equalities of Chile and Britain we can talk about the love for football and sports in general, great literature, art and music and many other things.

I thing that as humans we have a lot of differences, but we are all equals in many of the aspects: we breathe, we talk, we eat, and we can feel and think.

I think that's the most important thing after all.

Thank you very much; I hope this can help you to form your own opinions
